Project Summary
Tripybud helps find travel buddies. This case study displays the creation of a hypothetical brand; and therein, designing an App as a trustworthy and safe platform where travelers can find suitable and genuine travel buddies.
Role: Design Lead
Duration: 2 Week
Team: Group of 7
Context
A solo traveler often thinks of making new friends in the journey. Hence, such a traveler wants to find other travelers going towards a similar destination; with whom the person can enjoy the trip.

On the other hand, in some instances, a person is left alone as the other travelers of the group had to drop out of the plan at the last minute. Now this traveler feels the need for a travel companion with whom the person can comfortably proceed with the trip.

Tripybud caters to these kinds of audiences.
Phase 1: Discovery & Research
This step includes background research on the needs of the target audience. A relevant questionnaire was prepared for selected users. Then user interviews were conducted to draw observations.
User Interviews - needfinding
User 1 Interview
User 1 Pain points
• Insecurity when interacting with an unknown person

• Need of a trustworthy platform to find a travel companion

• Language barrier
User 2 Interview
User 2 Pain points
• Problem finding a trustworthy person and platform for travel buddies

• Anxious to meet new and unknown people

• Communication gap due to language constraints
User Persona
Phase 2: Planning & Strategy
In order to plan the workflow and devise a strategy, it was necessary to study the user flow on social media platforms where these users connect with new people. This study helped in jotting down limitations and possible threats involved, which would lead to solving the problem more practically based on real data.
User Journey Mapping:
After conducting the journey mapping, the problem statement was clearly defined, which further helped in listing the drawbacks and especially pain points of the users.
Problem statement and goals:
Based on this analysis an IA was developed, and the Verification flow, Homepage, community page, Find buddy page, chat page, and profile page were planned to design.
Information Architecture for the App:
Plan in a Jiffy:
The project’s focus was to solve the problem of finding verified users and making the user experience of the app secure and trustworthy.

The Registration was planned to be designed in a manner in which the users would be required to verify themselves via submitting a government ID document. Advanced security features such as alert help, ambulance, police, and safety tips were strategically planned to be included.
Phase 3: Ideation and Design
Inspirations were drawn from different onboarding flows studied on mobbin.
The Zomato delivery app also served as a great reference in terms of security and support features (which I discovered while working in Zomato delivery to get an experience of this process).
Initial sketches:
Custom components for wireframe
Low Fidelity wireframes
As per the Brand identity and App interface, the same typeface and color scheme were evenly followed throughout the project.
After the wireframes, a prototype was designed to test the functionality and get expert feedback. Based on the feedback, it was decided to come up with personalized questionnaires which could yield more relevant suggestions of travel buddies for the users.
Brand colors and typefaces for their distinct identity were decided considering psychological factors, in order to give users a trustworthy feel.
Based on this, the high-fidelity design of this app was made using the Android material design kit 3.
Ready-made components
Custom components and animations
The visual composition of all the elements on the screen was improved using design principles. This helped in balancing the visual weight and defining the hierarchy of the elements.
Final design and prototype:
Onboarding flow
Number/email verification, Live Video verification with government ID
Personalized questionnaire
Location, 4 interests of the user
Chat Flow
Users can chat after the connection request has been accepted; the chat includes features of report, rate, remove & share.
Security Features
Alert button, Call ambulance, Call Police, Get help from nearby travel buddy, Tripybud helpline
Security tips while messaging

Conclusion
>> Core insights from the project
• Learned how real data helps solve users’ pain points and identify the real problem
• Realized that it is not feasible to help every individual user on the internet; instead, creating awareness and including convenient features is a more realistic option
>> Key takeaways applicable in every UI/UX project
• Understood that an app works better with the business goal when it is user-centric and data-driven
• Learned to collect and verify real user data with personal interests to improve suggestions and increase efficiency
